Very rare and in exceptional condition for the issue
Lot 313
Civil Wars, 68-69. Rhine Legions, in the name of Augustus (27 BC-AD 14). Denarius (Silver, 17 mm, 3.45 g, 1 h), uncertain mint in Gaul or in the Rhine Valley, circa May/June-December 68. Bare head of Augustus to right. Rev. AVGVSTVS Capricorn to right, holding globe attached to rudder between front hooves and bearing cornucopiae on its back. BMC 45. CG 134-136. Cohen (Augustus) 21. Gollnow & Rutten 1153 var. (plated and of differing style). Martin A2. RIC 2. Very rare and in exceptional condition for the issue. Lightly toned, boldly struck and with a particularly attractive portrait. Slightly porous, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.

Ex Leu 7, 24 October 2020, 1553.

The closest stylistic parallels for this beautiful coin are Gollnow & Rutten 1138-1139, from the 'G P R Group II' (note the similar rendering of the forehead, nose, and neck), rendering it very likely that it was also struck by the Rhine Legions.
